Buying Case/Matter Management Software?

Don't Buy on Price Alone, Attorney Learns

Oct. 11, 2011

When Kentucky attorney Greta Hoffman decided to open her own practice, she wanted, of course, to save money. Consequently, she decided to purchase a legal case management software application that was the least expensive she could find. “I was trying to save money,” Hoffman now says, “but it turned out to be a bad move—and more expensive in the long run.”

It began in 2008 when she left her previous firm to open her own firm. “My old firm had used Legal Files since 2002,” Hoffman explained, “and we were happy with it, but I knew it wasn’t the cheapest software on the market.”

After nearly two years of trying to make the cheap software work for her new law office, Hoffman contacted Legal Files. The account representative who had managed the original firm’s account was still with the company. “When I talked with him on the phone, the first thing I did was apologize. I told him I should have stayed with Legal Files. He understood totally, and told me that I wasn’t the first person to purchase a system based on cost alone.”

With that lesson behind her, Hoffman passes her experience onto other attorneys. “I teach a practice management class, and in that class, I recommended Legal Files to all of the graduating attorneys.”

Serving Boone County, Campbell County, Gallatin County, Grant County, and Kenton County in Northern Kentucky, Greta Hoffman, Attorney at Law, PLLC concentrates its practice in family law, estate planning and probate consulting. For more information, visit www.HoffmanLawyer.com.
