We’re not even halfway through the year, but our 2016 calendar is already overflowing. In the coming months, we’re going to be busy with seminars, conferences and trade shows, as well as wrapping up the festivities during our 25th anniversary celebration. And if you plan to attend this year’s International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) Mid-Year Seminar in April, you’ll see Legal Files Software, Inc. there. The IMLA Mid-Year Seminar is yet another event on our calendar that we’re proud to be attending this year.
The International Municipal Lawyers Association (formerly NIMLO, the National Institute of Municipal Law Officers), is an advocate and resource for local government attorneys, with over 2,500 members in the US and Canada. The Association offer resources like continuing education courses, a bi-monthly publication and networking assistance, which connects members to legal firms and public interest groups. Its annual Mid-Year Seminar will take place this year in Washington, D.C., from April 15 to April 18.
Throughout the weekend of the Mid-Year Seminar, IMLA will present attendees with networking opportunities, presentations and speaker panels centered around the most pressing issues that face local government officials today. These issues include how to craft regulatory laws surrounding short-term rentals (such as those facilitated by Airbnb), strategies for addressing free speech issues after the Supreme Court’s Reed v. Town of Gilbert and regulating new technologies like drones. On Friday, April 15, much of the day’s panels will be devoted to Section 1983, a federal statute that allows plaintiffs to file a civil action against the government and its officers. Friday’s presentations will provide municipal lawyers with tools and resources for the defense of police officers and other persons who represent and enforce the law. Those who plan to attend can view the full schedule here and start planning their visit.
While at the IMLA Mid-Year Seminar this year, we’ll be at the Exhibitor Hall, taking the opportunity to educate attendees about our legal matter management software and why our Legal Files program is an excellent and cost-effective resource for city governments. Adept at large-scale legal matter management and completely eschewing the need for technical support staff, Legal Files software increases productivity in municipal legal departments without the need for increased staff or hours. If you’ll be at the Mid-Year Seminar, stop by our booth to learn why Legal Files is the preferred matter management software of our municipal clients as well as educational institutions and corporations.
