Springfield, Ill., Jan. 19, 2017—Children’s Law Center, Inc., a non-profit legal service center protecting the rights of children and youth, has chosen Legal Files, developed by Legal Files Software, Inc., as its legal case management system.
The Center plans to use Legal Files to improve efficiencies in the areas of client intake, tracking service requests, capturing client demographic data, and generating reports for management and grant funders.
“In the past, we have struggled with how to handle or track documents and emails related to intake or advice-only file,” said Acena Black, a managing attorney with The Center. “For example, sometimes a parent will bring in records before we have officially accepted a case. With Legal Files, we can immediately begin to track and save information into the system, then once an intake is accepted, all the information entered seamlessly migrates into an open case, where we, as advocates, and others can take over,” she explained. “There isn’t one system for intake and another for case management. It will streamline the entire process.”
Because The Center’s previous systems were not centralized, reporting was time consuming and cumbersome, Black said. “Depending on the staff person or attorney, documents were saved on network drives, local hard drives or even a zip drive,” she said. “It was difficult to see the big picture. With Legal Files, we will have one, central location for all the information related to each file or case, including documents, emails, notes, alerts and reminders, assuring that everyone has access to the most current information, and that reports can be generated with a click or two of a button.”
