City of La Crosse Selects Legal Files Software to Modernize Legal Dept Ops

The City of La Crosse has selected Legal Files Software, Inc. to provide a comprehensive legal matter management system for its legal department, marking a significant upgrade from the city’s previous system.

After experiencing ongoing challenges with its legacy system, the legal department found the software increasingly incompatible with current technology. “For all intents and purposes, we had nearly stopped using our old system to capture data,” Brenda L. Buddenhagen, paralegal for the city’s legal department, said. “Manual tracking had unfortunately become our norm, which is not sustainable for our growing needs.”

Recognizing the need for a more efficient and modern solution, the department reached out to Legal Files Software, Inc. The new system will streamline case management, improve data accuracy and reduce the administrative burden on staff. Legal Files Software is providing the city with a full suite of services including a software subscription, administrative user and end-user training, dedicated project management, as well as custom development services to assist with the migration of legacy data.

City Attorney Stephen F. Matty expressed optimism about the transition. “We’re excited about what Legal Files can do for us,” he said. “It’s going to centralize and simplify the way we manage our legal matters, ultimately improving our responsiveness and service to the City of La Crosse.”

Implementation is already underway, with city staff actively preparing for the system rollout. Early feedback from users has been enthusiastic, with many expressing relief at the prospect of moving away from outdated tools and toward a more integrated, user-friendly solution. The new Legal Files system is expected to go live later this year.
