Grand Rapids Taps Legal Files Software for City Attorney’s Office

“Legal Files’ flexibility allowed our Legal Department to purchase only one software program rather than two.”

The City of Grand Rapids has approved an agreement with Legal Files Software for Attorneys Case Management, Inc. to provide legal case management software and support services for the City Attorney’s Office.

“As part of our due diligence, we researched several programs that provide complete office case management and FOIA solutions, and spoke with other municipalities,” City Attorney Anita Hitchcock said. “Of the five programs we reviewed, only Legal Files was adaptable for both FOIA and office records management. Legal Files’ flexibility allowed our Legal Department to purchase only one software program rather than two.”

Legal Files Litigation Software for Attorneys offers centralized management of cases and contacts; integrates with Microsoft Office; allows for project management and collaboration within the system; and is “extremely user-friendly,” Hitchcock said. Legal Files also enables administrators to generate reports quickly on a variety of deliverables captured within the system.

“Legal Files will allow our office to streamline workflows, achieve efficiencies through improved organization and collaboration of staff and allow for robust reporting of legal matters handled by our office,” Hitchcock said. “Legal Files offered the best solution for the City of Grand Rapids.”

The City Attorney’s Office performs legal services for the city and provides legal counsel to every aspect of city government. A law department of 17 attorneys and administrative staff, the City Attorney’s Office is comprised of the Municipal Affairs, Civil Litigation, and Enforcement divisions, as well as a Freedom of Information Act Coordinator.
