“With so much of our work being done via email, Legal Files provides a mechanism that connects email and calendars with the matter, so all the important information is in one place.”
PNM Resources, an energy holding company based in Albuquerque, has implemented Legal Files, the private investigation case management software, developed by Legal Files Software, Inc. for its corporate legal department.
“Legal Files delivers a centralized, standardized electronic system for managing case materials, helps us better organize documents to reduce search time, and provides an environment where continuous improvement is possible,” Manager Shelli Simpson said. “Previously, our legal case management processes were handled manually. Now Legal Files offers us the tools that result in cost savings, not necessarily in hard costs but the soft costs of the employees’ time.”
Through its regulated utilities, PNM Resources provides electricity and electric services to approximately 790,000 homes and businesses in New Mexico and Texas. Consequently, its legal department manages numerous types of legal files including contracts, employment/human resources, litigation and environmental and regulatory matters.
“With so much of our work being done via email, Legal Files provides a mechanism that connects email and calendars with the matter, so all the important information is in one place,” Simpson said. “Additionally, Legal Files is a great tool for collaboration. For instance, if an attorney is out of the office and someone needs information regarding a specific matter, Legal Files allows others in the department to look up the status and documents of the matter very quickly or, if necessary, review outstanding tasks at a glance.”
