Responding to customer and marketplace demands for greater navigational flexibility, more robust document management tools, as well as additional integration features with Microsoft Outlook, Legal Files Software, Inc. has released 10.6, the latest version of its popular case and matter management software.

Brief highlights of Legal Files 10.6 include:
Enhancing Legal Files’ integration with Microsoft Outlook, the Legal Files/Outlook Pane was improved, enabling you, from within Outlook, to right-click on a file name to create a calendar or to-do/task within the specified Legal Files case or matter. This is in addition to the existing functionality which allows you to create a note, phone log or time slip directly to Legal Files from the Outlook interface. A Version Existing Document control was added, giving you the ability to create new versions of existing documents in Legal Files during the import process from Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Documents can also be simultaneously routed.
For Legal Files’ built-in document management system, a new multi-select feature permits users to update multiple documents (up to 50) simultaneously, modifying document statuses and dates, locking documents or placing documents on the mail log. Utilizing Legal Files’ portal mode, multiple documents can now be exposed to multiple assigned users—a significant upgrade from previous versions. Additionally, Legal Files’ integration with iManage was upgraded for this release.
File menu navigation is streamlined with the introduction of a three-dot icon on the Actions, Utilities, Wizards, etc. menus. From anywhere in Legal Files, hovering or clicking on the icon opens a popup window, which displays the current file’s Navigation Menu with hyperlinks to any of the Menu options displayed.
Other new features add greater flexibility to reporting functions. Custom Window, File Query and Calendar Query Reports can be saved, with separate default (or saved) criteria available on each report or Custom Window template. New symbolic date defaults were also added, including Default Month End, Default Year End, Default Week and Default Week End. In Utilities, a Two-Week Time Entry function was added, allowing you to create and update time slips in a grid-based format following pay periods created by administrators. The view provides totals by day, week and task code.
New User Preferences include an Advanced Search Copy feature, enabling Legal Files administrators to “push” default search criteria set by one user to another user or users. A new Include Criteria in Query Reports gives you the option to display report filter criteria when reports are run.
Enhancements were also made to Legal Files Optional eBilling module which now supports LEDES 1998B imports, as well as the LEDES 2000 data format, the standard formats specified by the members of the LEDES organization.
Current Legal Files customers using the web/browser version will receive Legal Files 10.6 as a free update as part of their maintenance and support agreements.
